Aside
from the outbreak, series of news has outraged the many.
Take
for example the Anti-terror bill that has sparked retaliations among the mass.
This new bill is seen by the public as a means of undermining the voice of the
people and pushing forward an era of dictatorship.
Many
Philippine artists have joined the online call and let their voices be heard
against the anti-terror bill namely, Nadine Lustre, Liza Soberano, Janine
Gutierrez, and Gab Pangilinan, among others. But, what caught the attention of
the many was when the International pop star, Taylor Swift, joined the movement
to junk the Anti-Terror Bill in the Philippines.
As
a staunch advocate of human rights, the Grammy-winning American
singer-songwriter took the opportunity to use social media to raise some
awareness on the matter namely the Black Lives Matter movement and the
anti-terrorism bill that is inching closer to becoming a law in the
Philippines.
With
over 133 million followers on Instagram, Swift encouraged her fans on her
Instagram Story through a shared link from carrd.com, a platform of a one-page
website, called “blacklivesmatters.carrd.co” with links to information on how
the public can educate themselves and help others in these two major
advocacies.
"When
you’re done: Educate yourself. This doesn’t go away once the topic isn’t
trending," the shared page reads.
Once
the "Junk Terror Bill" is clicked, netizens are directed to a page of
petitions, email protests, and more information on the bill that will allow the
Philippine government officials to detain suspected terrorists even without an
arrest warrant.
Before
this, Swift recently called out US President Donald Trump on her twitter post
as she asserted, "stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism on his
entire presidency."
She
also cited Trump's controversial tweet in which he said, "When the looting
starts, the shooting starts," before threatening: "We will vote you
out in November. @realdonaldtrump."
As of today,
Taylor Swift’s name reached more than 27,000 tweets, as well as her first name,
pops out with over 583,000 tweets.
